The Greatest Joy of My Life: Serving God

If I could tell you one thing about my life, one thing that has shaped me more than anything else, it would be this: Serving God has been the greatest, most fulfilling joy I’ve ever known.
Now, I’m not saying that because my life has been perfect. Oh no, far from it. I’ve walked through valleys so deep I thought I’d never come out. I’ve made choices I wish I could take back. I’ve stumbled in ways that left me covered in shame. But even in all of that—especially in all of that—I found something so life-changing: His love.
When you finally realize that you are loved by God—not just in theory, not just in Sunday school words, but really loved—everything changes. For me, it was like the sun rising after years of darkness. I had spent so much of my life feeling like I had to earn love, prove my worth, or hide my brokenness. But then God’s love came crashing in, and it washed over every lie.
The Bible says in Jeremiah 31:3:
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”
Do you know how freeing that is? To know you are loved with an everlasting love? Not “until you mess up again” love. Not “when you finally get it right” love. Everlasting love. That truth flipped my world upside down.
And here’s the sweetest part: serving Him isn’t some duty or checklist anymore. It’s my response to that love. It’s my joy. It’s waking up and saying, “God, how can my life today show someone else who You are?”
Serving God looks different for everyone. For me, sometimes it’s writing books and blogs that tell of His redemption. Sometimes it’s hugging a neighbor who just needs someone to notice them. Sometimes it’s standing in church singing through tears, knowing that even in my weakness, He is strong.
There’s this deep, quiet joy that comes with knowing your life has meaning beyond yourself. I can’t even fully explain it—it’s something you feel in your spirit. When you’re in step with Him, when you’re living loved, when you’re pouring out of what He’s poured into you—it’s joy unspeakable.
Psalm 16:11 says:
“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
I’ve tasted that fullness of joy. Not because everything in my life is tied up with a neat little bow, but because His presence is with me. That’s what makes serving Him the greatest joy of all—it’s not about what I do, it’s about who He is.
And sis, can I be honest? There’s nothing like the moment when you realize God even uses your broken story to bless someone else. The very things I thought would disqualify me are the very things He uses to show His grace. Only God can do that.
So if you’re weary, if you’re wondering if serving God is worth it, let me tell you from the deepest place in my heart: it is. It’s worth it a hundred times over. His love will meet you where you are, and His joy will carry you further than you ever thought you could go.
Pause & Reflect
Have you ever truly let yourself believe that God loves you with an everlasting love?
What are some ways you’ve seen Him turn your broken places into places of blessing?
How can you serve Him today—not out of obligation, but out of joy?
Lord, thank You for the gift of Your everlasting love. Thank You that serving You isn’t a burden but the greatest joy of my life. Teach me to see every day as an opportunity to love You back. Use my story, even the broken parts, to point others to Your grace. Let my life shine as proof of Your faithfulness. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
If this spoke to your heart, I’d love for you to share it with a friend. Because the truth is, we’re all looking for joy—and real joy is only found in Him.
